But this last bugger just won't play fair :-) Perhaps I installed drivers in the wrong order ??? sits on a flashing curser at two l-o-n-g intervals, takes about one full minute, then boots into windows XP just fine ???  Any idea's ?? Before I was able to give Justin Time's solution a chance, I decided to try replacing the modem with a new one. It will detect what driver(s) you need. This is the generic driver from Conexant and performs very well. You'll be surprised how much more dell downloads has to offer.

Put the service tag into the dell site and download all the driver packages again. Vista Ultimate x64 gives me the same error as JustinTime has. It did work and no problems, I already restarted and still good. http://www.modem-drivers.com/drivers/429/429762.htm I have since gone through the Add Hardware procedure and was able to "install" the modem with the manual procedure in that section. If they're already on a domain, perhaps check your group policies. My system is now running great and so far, I like Vista a lot. Additional batteries are affected. Although at this time, this error doesn't seem to effect me much, I HATE to see error messages pop up and would like for fix this problem very much if possible Modem Ven is 14F1 Dev is 2F20.

Mine was looking for it in c:\documents not the entire c drive. In doing the above procedure, the closest option is "Device Instance Path" which reports the following string... I have also done the Dell Website diagnostic several different ways, to no avail :(  -after updating and applying fixes to all of .NET runtime updates etc etc etc . .
